The space shuttle Discovery finally blasted off after many delays. Lucky for us, we happen to be camping at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral. At just about 7:44pm Discovery lifted off launch pad 39A under clear skies. The launch site was approximately 13 miles from our location.
This is the 28th mission to the Space Center. The flight will deliver the Starboard 6 truss segment, giving the station it's fourth and final set of power-generating solar wings.
Very cool . It was worth the wait.
