We spent the weekend mostly in KY , visiting with friends and fellow Prudhoe Bay Refugees, Sandy and Bill Kuhn. We met their son David and got our dog fix with "DJ" a lab/chow mix? Cool dog, with many of the same mannerisms as Rigley. Refugee Danna suggested we have "Lava Flows". Yummy drink.
Friday we tootled around the country back roads of Northern Kentucky and stumbled into Rabbit Hash. The Country Store is in the Nat'l Register of Historic Places. Interesting spot on the Ohio River. Then we went over the river into Indiana so Austin could get a few casino chips for his collection.
Later we met up with Sandy and Bill and they took us for ribs at the World Famous Montgomery Inn. The ribs were delicious along with straw onions. From there we went over the river and met Sandy's friend Cathy. A die hard Cincinnati Reds fan who was instrumental in getting us tickets to the 3 day Red Soxs series. Cathy was a hoot. She gave us the Grand Tour of The Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds. It was nice to have someone point out the highlights of the park. Lots of things we wouldn't have noticed without her. But the cost was high, we had to hear about the 1975 World Series in which the Reds beat the Red Soxs and after Friday nights game there was harassment because the Soxs lost. But not to worry Saturday was a new day.
Sandy and Bill picked us up early and took us to Mainstrasse Village in Covington. A quaint village area of old architecture, little shops and restaurants. We had lunch here and then found that someone had smashed the window on the back door of the Kuhn's 6 month old car. Bummer. After a chat with the Covington Police we continued on over to the ball park for game two. We parked in a parking garage across from the bank where Sandy works. $2.00 is all it cost, can you believe it? At the park we had many, many Red Soxs fans all around us. It was funny to listen to who could chant louder. The boos where trying to drown out the "Let's Go Red Soxs". The Soxs won both the Saturday and Sunday games and all was well.
After the game we went over to Italianfest Riverfront in Newport Kentucky. The Mayor's wife shook our hand and said "welcome Red Soxs fans", we thought that was nice. We enjoyed some pasta, entertainment and drink before calling it a night. Diane and Sandy are seen here with Double Shot Daiquiri's, good but not as good as the Lava Flows.
It was a short but very sweet visit with great folks. We had a great time and look forward to their visit here on Cape Cod someday in the near future.
