Arrived at Mike Roess Gold Branch State Park in Keystone Heights, FL for five nights. This was home base for our day trips here and there. We walked the beach and tootled around St. Augustine, drove around Ocala National Forest, had a wonderful samon dinner and received great Christmas and Birthdays presents at home with Travis and Donna.
Saturday we spent a fun day together at a few of Trav and Donna's favorite spots. First up was Millhopper Geological State Park where we desended 236 steps into a sink hole , a bowl shaped cavity 120 feet deep and a miniature rainforest. A pretty neat place to see and then we had to climb all those steps to get out.
Took a breather as we headed over to Paynes Prairie Perserve State Park.
Home to hundreds of wild aligators, turtles, birds (and other critters that we didn't see), this was a casual walk through a natural setting near Gainesville. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Micanopy, a quaint spot on the map and the oldest inland town in Florida. In this town named after a famous Seminole Indian Chief, we checked out some antique shops and had lunch in the Old Florida Cafe'. Old houses and big trees with Spanish Moss hanging from the branches was a postcard scene of yesteryear. It was a great day in back country Florida.
Went to dinner at "The Top of the Reef" in Green Coast Springs. Trav had fried Gator Tails. Travis has loved anything gator since he was around 12 and we took him to Gatorland.
We moved to North Carolina this afternoon. No State Park tonight, It's Super Bowl night and we are hooked up to cable. Go Pat's !!!
