Arriving in Florida

Travis and Austin
Austin and Trav spent our first weekend in Florida with their heads in the gutter, Travis' words not mine.  The father -son team spent quality time on home improvements.  Antiquing and the Puppy Bowl too.

Next we found ourselves in Wekiwa Springs State Park along the Wekiva River in Apopka, Florida.  Forty-two million gallons of crystal clear water flow each day from Wekiwa Springs into the Wekiwa Springs Run, the run joins with Rock Springs Run to form the upper Wekiva River.

Wekiwa Springs

Creeks, later called Seminoles are the most recent Native Americans to have lived here.
Wekiwa means " spring of water"
Wekiva means  " flowing water"

Austin and I paddled s canoe for 3 hours on the Wekiva River.  We enjoyed the quiet beauty, birds, alligators, turtles and fish.

From this base camp we visited my cousin Mary Beth and her family.  Mary Beths grandchildren, 5 year old Henry and 7 year old Jacob were shocked to see Rigley jump in the pool, the expressions on their faces were priceless.  It was said that they always wanted a dog that would swim in the pool and Rigley had a splash ;)

Enjoyed dinner at the Boston Fish House and had a great time chatting.

Leaving the beautiful state parks behind us, we now find ourselves in Fort Myers.  Welcome to city life, yuck!  Our site at Shady Acres is as wide as our car is long. Wall to wall RV's, this park is bustling with activity. We are here with friends from our RV club, the Halpins and just down the road are our good friends Diane and Bill Gallo.  There is a nice fenced in dog area here and Rigley's friend Bentley came over to play.

At the 3rd annual Bark in Riverside Park, Rigley and Bentley met plenty of new friends.  The event benefited the Gulf Coast Humane Society. Rigley checked out the pet ambulance and charmed his way into a bag of Frisbees and tennis balls from the Pet Super Market  booth for the dog park here at Shady Acres.

The Red Soxs and the Twins are reporting for Spring training. Both parks are relatively close.  We have tickets for several games in March.
