Mackinac Island

The family adventure brought us on board the Shepler's Ferry to Makinac Island. It was a 16 minute ride across the Straits of Mackinaw passing the Round Island Lighthouse.

The day was cloudy and cool but we had a fun time . Finally humans who acknowledged Rigley was a child and charged us the children's fare for him to ride on the horse drawn carriage. No cars have been allowed on Mackinac Island since 1898. We boarded the first carriage on Main Street and started our tour through the downtown area passing the post office,

and the mayor's house

winding our way to the Surrey Hills Museum.

There we boarded a different carriage and continued the tour through Mackinac Island State Forest where we pasted the Post Cemetery, one of only four cemetery's in the country allowed to permanently fly the American flag at half staff.

Back in town, Austin and I decided to try a tandem bike ride. We hooked up a Burley and bribed Rigley into climbing in.

We road out to the Arch Rock which we had seen from up above when we were on the carriage ride, that was our turn around point. Good thing we only booked for an hour because we never would have survived two hours.
